In the race, it was Ducati rider Xavier Del Amor who made an excellent start and set the early pace as he tried to establish a lead on current Championship leader Forés. Despite improving on his lap times from the earlier sessions, Amor’s resistance only lasted five laps before Forés took the lead and maintained a pace that nobody could match, taking his third successive win of the season.
Third place went to Honda rider Santiago Barragán, after a battle with another Team Motorrad rider, Alberto López, who had started third on the grid and was looking good for his first podium finish, before dropping back in the latter stages and finally ending up in eighth position. Lopez is currently in sixth place in the overall points standings and it surely won’t be long before the Cantabrian rider gets his first rostrum finish.
The third team rider, Enrique Rocamora, had a weekend he’ll want to forget, after being forced to retire from the race with a technical problem. He was enjoying a great race and running in fifth position when he had to return to the pits. Despite this unlucky incident, Rocamora still holds fourth place in the overall points standings and will be looking forward to continuing his championship challenge and aiming for a return to the podium again in the upcoming rounds.
Forés’ win means that he is currently enjoying a maximum 75 points at the top of the leaderboard, 27 points ahead of his nearest challenger. This excellent result for the S 1000 RR also means that BMW is leading the Manufacturers category in the Stock Extreme class on 114 points, with almost twice as many points as the nearest challenger Honda, on 58, with Ducati in third on 49.
The next round of the 2010 CEV Buckler will be on July 11th at the new circuit of Motorland Aragón at Alcañiz. More information on the race classifications and the Championship can be found by visiting www.cevbuckler.com
